From first conversation to permit-ready plans — here's what the process looks like.
You don't need to have everything figured out before we start. Most of my clients are doing this for the first time, and walking them through the process is a big part of what I do. Here's how a typical project unfolds:
You reach out through the website, email, or phone. Tell me whatever you have — even if it's just an idea. There's no wrong way to start.
We set up a phone call (or video meeting if you prefer) so I can understand your needs, wants, and expectations. This is where I learn how you live and what matters to you in a home.
Depending on the project — especially additions, remodels, and new construction on specific lots — I'll visit the site to assess conditions, take measurements, and understand the context. I'm based in Wisconsin and do these in person.
I develop up to four different concept options using my design software — floor plans, 3D views, and elevation drawings. This gives you a broad range to look at, and when you pick what resonates, it helps me see what you like so I can use that going forward.
You review the drafts as I send them over. We can meet face to face to walk through options, discuss flow, and go over upcoming decisions. This back-and-forth continues until the design is exactly right — on your timeline, not mine.
Once you give the final word, I complete the full documentation: dimensioned plans, construction notes, wall bracing plans, heat calculations, and all permit-related paperwork. Everything your builder needs to break ground.
The final plan set is delivered to you or your builder — permit-ready and complete. No missing paperwork, no extra fees for heat calcs or wall bracing. The project is invoiced at delivery.
You don't need to have it all figured out. Tell me what you're thinking and I'll help you figure out the next steps — no pressure, no obligations.
